The Magic of Christmas at the Butchart Gardens
To celebrate the holiday season, the Butchart Gardens is offering a special deal! Until the end of November, you can experience both the Gardens and High Tea for only $37 per person.
The Butchart Gardens is beautiful in every season. In spring, the garden comes alive with the colours and scents of hundreds of thousands flowers. In summer, a magical glow is cast with thousands of carefully placed lights. Autumn brings the Japanese Garden to life with fiery red, russet and golden maples, and in winter, the background trees and shrubs of summer have a chance to shine.
But Christmas, the Butchart Garden’s fifth season, is the true highlight. Tens of thousands of lights along with evergreen swags, holly wreaths and winter berries adorn the walkways and lampposts. And if you look carefully, you can spot the 12 Days of Christmas, light-style, tucked away in the 55 acres of gardens The season kicks off with the light-up ceremony on Dec. 1st at 5 pm and features lively caroling and music.
Although Victoria has a temperate climate and rarely receives snow, visitors can experience a “White Christmas” at the Butchart Gardens’ 3,300 square foot outdoor skating rink. Skating is available during admission hours and the 40-minute sessions run on the hour. The rink’s capacity is only 50 people, so it’s best to book a time at the Visitor Information Centre when you arrive. Skate rentals are available, and helmets and wristguards are provided free of charge.
With breathtaking views of the Private Garden, the Italian Garden and Tod Inlet, the Dining Room Restaurant is the perfect setting for romantic dinners, family gatherings or large celebrations. Housed in the original Butchart Family residence, the restaurant pairs its elegant, historic atmosphere with innovative menus. The chef highlights Island-produced products, such as locally harvested greens and house-smoked wild BC Salmon. To complement your dinner, a large selection of award-winning wines, both local and imported, are also available. The winter menu is available from Dec.1st to Jan. 6th, including a special Christmas Day menu that is often sold out months in advance.
Introduced this year, High Tea is the Butchart Gardens’ latest culinary endeavor. Through the winter months, guests will enjoy a selection of premium loose teas and house-made treats, including roasted vegetable and cheese quiche, smoked tuna loin on curried mango chutney and Marzipan-wrapped Battenburg Cake. Their signature item, a candied ginger scone, is served warm and is accompanied by strawberry jam, whipped vanilla Devon-style cream and maple butter.
